NAIDOC WEEK 2017

‘OUR LANGUAGES MATTERS’

This year Bulu Yabun is running a children’s workshop on the 2017 NAIDOC Week theme ‘OUR LANGUAGES MATTERS’

This workshop includes storytelling, language activities and a traditional language song of the Gubbi Gubbi people. It also involves readings from the children’s books ‘Gubbi Gubbi Animal Friends’ and ‘Gubbi Gubbi Bush Tucker Girl’ which each contain ten traditional Gubbi Gubbi language words.

This workshop is intended for children of all ages. Prices vary depending on numbers.

Aboriginal language was once the main form of speech in Australia with over 500 dialects spoken across the land. Now more than ever, it is important to educate the community to ensure Aboriginal language is not lost. It is essential that we educate and teach the Gubbi Gubbi language through stories, song and dance.
